Tinwork Tissue Box Cover

Regular price $ 35.00

Tinwork of New Mexico has a rich history, traced back through Mexico and originating in Spain. As the New Mexico territory was being settled, metalsmiths who lacked raw materials used the tin from empty food containers that the U.S. Army garrisons would discard. This excellent tissue box cover showcases the beautiful punchwork and techniques that New Mexican tinwork is all about.

Artisan Jason Younis y Delgado continues the craft of Spanish Colonial tinwork that has been passed down through five generations of his family in New Mexico. Carrying on this family heritage Jason handcrafts this tin tissue box cover, as he does with all his work, by combining some traditional family patterns with his own designs, and even using some of his great-great-grandfather's tools. Tinwork of New Mexico is an important folk art that Jason hopes to pass down to the next generation.
