Painted Glass Box
Reverse painted glass is a traditional craft of Peru, and artisan Asunta Pelaez has been developing her skills for many years. She hand paints every design onto each pane of glass, then turns it so that the reverse side faces out. This allows the painting to be protected and the shine of the glass to add a very finished quality to her boxes.
Asunta is inspired by what she sees around her in the Cajamarca region, using India ink and tempera paint to bring color and definition to her designs. She then puts the painted glass panes together with wood framing to create this stunning - and roomy - jewelry or keepsake box.
